Experienced, athletic, powerful… just three words that can be used to describe Bacary Sagna.
A right-back by trade, the 32-year-old has plied his trade in England for some time now and knows the league inside out.
Having spent seven years in the Premier League with Arsenal, the defender became a fans’ favourite in North London before making the switch to Manchester to embark on a new challenge.
Triumphant in the FA Cup with the Gunners as well as the Coupe de France and Intertoto Cup with Auxerre, Sagna was known as ‘Mr Reliable’ during his time in Ligue 1 and certainly holds the ‘winning mentality’. He arrived at the Etihad Stadium in the hope of clinching more trophies.
A regular on the international stage too, Sagna represents France at senior level and has collected almost 50 caps for his country.
He could instead have chosen to play for Senegal but opted to represent the country of his birth. He has gone on to compete in the 2010 and 2014 World Cups, although he missed out on the Euro 2012 competition through injury.
Committed and versatile, the defender joined City in the summer of 2014 but struggled to oust the ever-dependable Pablo Zabaleta from the starting line-up, making just 16 appearances in all competitions.
Determined to become a first-team regular, Sagna will hope to show the Blue faithful exactly why the Arsenal fans were disappointed to see him leave the Emirates, in a new season filled with renewed optimism and belief.
